Our approach is to provide you with a short term estimated result after 10 days as well as a long term accurate result after 3 months. The reason we provide two results is that a short term estimate can help if you are in a conveyancing process or planning to carry out construction work at the property, as this will give you an estimate on whether the property might have high radon levels. This enables you to make informed decisions early on in the process. The long term result, provided after 3 months, is more accurate and will give you the actual level of radon exposure at the property.
To obtain a short term and long term result, our qualified and friendly team will visit your property and install 6 passive radon monitors in the areas of highest risk, where you are likely to spend the most time.
3 monitors are returned back to us after 10 days in our pre-paid envelope. The monitors are then processed through the laboratory. The results are then presented through a Home Survey Assessment to show estimated risks with clear and simple advice. Three months later, the other 3 monitors are returned in our pre-paid envelope and results processed through the laboratory. Your Home Survey Assessment is then updated with the long term accurate radon levels.

WHAT IS RADON AND WHY SHOULD I BE CONCERNED ABOUT IT IN MY HOME?
Radon is a natural gas that comes from rocks and soil. You can’t smell it, see it or taste it. Whilst it disperses outside in the open air and creates little risk, there is the possibility of radon levels building up inside homes, creating a health hazard for people living there.
HOW DOES RADON ENTER A HOME?
Through natural processes, the air pressure inside a building differs from the air pressure outside and that difference in air pressure increases as it gets colder outside. As a consequence radon gas will enter the property through cracks and gaps in the floor and walls. In order to improve heat comfort and improve environmental standards we often construct buildings that reduce ventilation, for example in the case of cavity wall insulation, double glazing and roof insulation. Over time, indoor radon levels can become excessive and harmful if it’s unable to escape and disperse.

When the concentration of radon is really high, it does pose a serious risk to your health. In fact, health studies show that radon is responsible for 3–5% of all lung cancers in the UK – the second largest cause after smoking. And if you’re a smoker, this problem is compounded even further.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY HOME TESTS POSITIVE FOR HIGH RADON LEVELS?
Controlling radon is about reducing the quantity that can get inside the building, usually through manipulating the internal air pressure, drawing radon away from the underneath of the building or using construction techniques to improve ventilation. There is no single solution as it depends on the building, however it’s usually relatively inexpensive. To ensure absolute impartiality on our risk assessment, we don’t offer remedial work directly, however we can project manage your solution with the right contractor to ensure an effective result.
